Big June from B’klyn here, bringing you and extended black history month exclusive. If you follow my blog then you know that on the last day of February, I went to Maryland for Chae Ham’s Pre-Amp product demo at The Omega Studios training facility, well while I was there I stalked Omega for Upcoming or developed talent hanging around. One of the Most Impressive developed Businessmen there was a brother by the name of Marcus Marshall. Let me start by saying that this guy was dressed rather plainly and not really very chatty (off camera), he knew everybody there but wasn’t trying to make his presence known. The only reason we met was because of a mutual BBF Cephas Jackson who kinda put the word out that the press (meaning me) would be in the building. So Marcus kinda slid me his card on some “hit me up if you ever need consulting” tip, which in turn caused me to inquire “who the hell is Marcus”.
Marcus (owner and operator of MEC Productions) actually surprised me because most people there were trying to network with each other, and he was just kind of there, and although I heard his name come up several times while interviewing other people, the way he kind of stood in the corner and sort of blended into the crowd, it was like he didn’t know anybody at all. Marcus was smooth, and nonchalant. It’s hard to believe that such an accomplished Omega Alum wasn’t bragging about his achievements after he left school, he was just there, Hanging loose. He gave his card to people he didn’t know like a smart businessman should, never passing up an opportunity, but never coming off as aggressive or overbearing.
I soon learned that, part of Omega Studio’s training in preparation for the wonderful world known as the music industry, is teaching their students how to correctly entice possible business opportunities and to remain humble in the mist of their success. If only more schools did this with their students, the music industry would be a better place. Either way I was most impressed not only with Marcus’s ability to Promote himself adequately but to capitalize in a subtle way of even the most minute of opportunities. I actually have more interviews with Omega Studios students past and present, as well as a one on one with the Owner and operator Ed Peterson. Stay tuned my Blacren minions, more to come!!
