From left: Brent Bartley who will play the lead in ReUpI’ve learned a lot since the Breeze Webisode but I should’ve elaborated to why I didn’t push for more exposure. It received mixed reviews some of it encouraging , admittedly I wasn’t happy with the end result. Breeze was a testing ground working with new technology(HDSLRS) and limited resources. It was an unfamiliar experience collaborating with a writer(Neil Drumming) for the first time in the early stages of my career. This isn’t an excuse but interpreting someones work can be challenging if you want to remain faithful to their script.
Sometimes I found myself being literal and asking would he vibe with my vision. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of second guessing but it can be a hindrance.
Brent Bartley training his student at Renzo Gracie What else is important?, challenge your actors, extras included, I can’t stress this enough. When I trusted my instincts that’s when I made sound decisions. Some of the exterior sequences including the intros were long but that’s when I found my style, moving forward I’ll build from this. Directors Terry Gilliam(Brazil,Twelve Monkeys), Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) and Early Scorcese. These are directors whose visual style I feel connected to. With this affirmation I decided to do ReUp my first Sci-Fi Short, currently I’m writing it along with one other writer with hopes it negates ” too many chefs in the kitchen”, hey I’m always down for collaborating.
This time I’ll bring confidence with continued patience to the table, embracing success and accepting failure, if it’s back to the drawing board so be it. I’m writing this post because I’m willing to face my fears and be content with trying.
I’m thanking those in advance who are assisting me in this journey, in many ways this is ReUp. With limited resources it’ll take some time but what I learned from Breeze or any Artform is you have to finish what you’ve started, with support of the crew and friends I wasn’t discouraged. Immediately I started brainstorming for ReUp and my favorite film genre Action/ Sci-Fi.
Right now I’m in pre-production and I’ll keep you posted. I’m hoping I’ll rise to the challenge win or lose it wont be the last.
