Yesterday’s inauguration of Mayor Elect Bill De Blasio ushered in a new era of a more “progressive” New York City.
Micheal Powell of the New York Times wrote:”More broadly, the new mayor’s speech underlines that those conservatives who cast a querulous eye and accuse New York City of floating closer to Europe than to North America are not entirely mistaken. It can seem more akin to a Social Democratic nation-state than to a typical American city.”-MICHAEL POWELL– The New York Times
During his campaign De Blasio focused on inequality among New Yorker’s, or was it posturing for votes?
Either way the speeches delivered yesterday from a number of speakers including Bill Clinton and Harry Belafonte took on a varied tone. Some praised Bloomberg while others went on the attack. Whether you love or hate ” The New York” it’s clear a lot has changed during his tenure, both good and bad. The days first and most outspoken speaker Rev. Fred Lucas Jr., compared New York under the Bloomberg Regime to a “plantation.” lol wow! Yes the Brother took it there and in some instances I agree.
Throughout the ceremony Bloomberg looked none to happy with his frequent scowl and withholding applause(peep his screwface tactics here if you must). you’d think after 3 terms Bloomberg would gracefully give De Blasio a crack at the nation’s 2nd most powerful position. It’s time for a change, after 12 years of Bloomie I hope De Blasio will bring change and a semblance of equality.
