John Hughes R.I.P- Miss. Ash Look’s Back

Thursday, August 6th, 2009 ENTERTAINMENT

jh

It’s been a rough summer, especially for those of us who were kids or teens in the 80s.  Our icons are dying and I’m talking MVP’s.  Michael Jackson’s death hit me HARD, much harder than I ever would have imagined.  It wasn’t just the man or his music that stopped, it was my childhood that stopped, froze in mid-air and dropped off into this chasm called “The Past”.

Now, with the news of another MVP who helped me come-of- age, John Hughes’, I’m officially sad both for the man and my childhood.  I watched Molly Ringwald (justifiably!) pout her way through “16 Candles” and then get her man in the end (oh, how I LOVED Jake Ryan) no less than 30 times.  I am still mesmerized by that movie to this day. And don’t even get me started on “Some Kind of Wonderful”, “She’s Having a Baby” or “The Breakfast Club” all “some kind of” cinematic perfection.  Hughes was ahead of his time. His soundtracks unforgettable and his characters heartbreakingly relatable.  I watched his films as if they contained the secrets of the universe within them.  And you know what?  For me, an American, suburban kid growing up in the 80s and 90s… they did. -Miss. Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland Trailer

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 ENTERTAINMENT, The Obscure

depphatter-1
Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is going to be some trippy ish.
I wasn’t feeling Johnny Depp’s rendition of Willy Wonka, Gene Wilder’s performance is the best there’ll ever be in my opinion . Hopefully Depp’s role as the Mad Hatter will make him synonymous with children’s classic.

These production stills showcase Tim Burton’s brilliance in capturing the imaginary and often horrifying world of Wonderland. For more pics of the major characters  (Helana Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway also star.)-Setty Mac- (more…)

“Still Bill” The Bill Withers Documentary

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 ART, ENTERTAINMENT, MUSIC

When Prolific sent this link  I had to peep it immediately on my slow ass iPhone. That says a lot, I rarely use it to watch YouTube videos because The 3G is WACK. Anyways I digress. Bill Withers, The Black Man’s Bob Dylan.

I grew up listening to his music in my dad’s car on his 8 track and I often wondered why Bill disappeared. Perhaps popular music no longer had a need for him, their loss. “Still Bill” is the new documentary chronicling  the songwriter’s career.

The CGN crew is looking forward to this one, as he’s inspiration to us all.
